This August, FTI will host a special Teacher Training Fellowship for teachers who want to incorporate futures forecasting into their curriculum. The program lasts three intensive days, and we will teach fellows how to incorporate the tools of futurists into their existing coursework.
August 20-22, 2018
10am - 4pm Eastern Time (U.S.)
International applications are welcome, however please note the times we will be meeting.
Our Teaching Fellows program is open to current college and graduate school faculty. Selected high school faculty will be considered if space allows. We prioritize those who primarily teach business, entrepreneurship, strategy, economics, political science, leadership, technology, journalism and the hard sciences. The program is virtual, and all classes must be attended to complete the fellowship.
The program is best suited to professors teaching courses in:
Tuesday: Introduction and orientation to futures thinking; introduction to systems thinking; using a cross-disciplinary approach to your teaching
Wednesday: Deep-dive into the methodology; weak signals at the fringe; pattern identification; spotting emerging trends; incorporating these frameworks into your teaching
Thursday: scenario development; implications analysis; incorporating scenarios into your teaching; small group meetings to discuss your syllabi, answer questions, and advise you on incorporating futures thinking into your work
Teaching Fellows will receive ample materials that they can use and adapt for their classes, including:
• sample syllabi
• classroom activities
• reading lists tailored to specific subjects/ courses
• Power Point slides
• A Slack team that will remain active indefinitely, so that we can continue to discuss best practices ideas
• list of recommended resources
There is no charge to participate in the Teaching Fellows program. A Teaching Certificate is awarded to Fellows who successfully complete the program.
If you applied for last year's postponed summer fellowship, you must apply again this year. The application deadline is May 20th. First round of accepted Fellows will be notified by May 31st. Second round will be notified by June 5th. Notifications will be sent via email.
