Virtually every business will be impacted by extreme weather events, sea level rise, and global warming. The financial models and predictive systems that guided companies in the past will need to be adjusted for weather-related impacts. For example, a food and beverage company that uses vanilla in their products will rely more intensively on weather data to better predict possible shortages of the ingredient. Some companies, including Mars Chocolate (maker of M&Ms and Dove), now employ a team of meteorologists. Their job: analyze the impact of weather events on the company’s supply chain, financial models, production, and distribution.
