Rings and bracelets offer a good alternative to more programming-intensive watch interfaces
Last year, Amazon unveiled the Echo Loop smart ring, which functions as a speakerphone, digital assistant, and smart sensor. It’s essentially a wearable Alexa.
PayPal has been researching its own connected ring, intended for fast and easy payments without having to dig around for your phone or credit card. The Motiv and Oura rings track sleeping habits, while the ORII ring lets you make calls.
Google’s acquisition of Fitbit made major news last year, and it was seen as a move to combat Apple’s domination in the watch market. Rings and bracelets aren’t meant as replacements for smartwatches per se, but if you’re a developer looking for single-task application opportunities, rings and bracelets offer a good alternative to more programming-intensive watch interfaces.
